To choose the right type of rolling bearing, look at these major factors:

1. Load conditions

The size, direction and nature of the load on the bearing are the main basis for selecting the bearing type. If the load is small and stable, ball bearings are optional; When the load is large and there is impact, it is advisable to choose roller bearings; If the bearing is only subject to radial load, choose radial contact ball bearing or cylindrical roller bearing; When only the axial load is received, the thrust bearing should be selected; When the bearing is subjected to both radial and axial loads, angular contact bearings are selected. The larger the axial load, the larger the contact angle should be selected, and if necessary, the combination of radial bearing and thrust bearing can also be selected. It should be noted that thrust bearings cannot withstand radial loads, and cylindrical roller bearings cannot withstand axial loads.

 

2. The speed of the bearing

If the size and accuracy of the bearing are the same, the ultimate speed of the ball bearing is higher than that of the roller bearing, so when the speed is higher and the rotation accuracy is required to be higher, the ball bearing should be selected.

 

Thrust bearings have low limiting speeds. When the working speed is high and the axial load is not large, angular contact ball bearings or deep groove ball bearings can be used. For high-speed rotating bearings, in order to reduce the centrifugal force exerted by the rolling elements on the outer ring raceway, it is advisable to choose bearings with smaller outer diameter and rolling element diameter. Generally, it should be ensured that the bearing works below the limit speed. If the working speed exceeds the limit speed of the bearing, the requirements can be met by increasing the tolerance level of the bearing and appropriately increasing its radial clearance.

 

3. Self-aligning performance

The offset angle between the axis of the inner and outer ring of the bearing should be controlled within the limit value, otherwise the additional load of the bearing will be increased and its service life will be reduced. For the shaft system with poor stiffness or poor installation accuracy, the deviation angle between the axis of the inner and outer ring of the bearing is large, and it is advisable to choose a self-aligning bearing. Such as self-aligning ball bearings (class 1), self-aligning roller bearings (class 2), etc.

 

4. Allowable space

When the axial size is limited, it is advisable to choose narrow or extra-narrow bearings. When the radial size is limited, it is advisable to choose a bearing with small rolling elements. If the radial size is small and the radial load is large, needle roller bearings can be selected.

 

5. Assembly and adjustment performance

The inner and outer rings of tapered roller bearings (Class 3) and cylindrical roller bearings (Class N) can be separated, making it easier to assemble and disassemble.

 

6. Economy

In the case of meeting the use requirements, the low-cost bearing should be selected as much as possible. In general, the price of ball bearings is lower than that of roller bearings. The higher the accuracy class of the bearing, the higher its price.

If there are no special requirements, ordinary precision bearings should be selected as much as possible, and only when there are higher requirements for rotation accuracy, higher precision bearings should be selected.
