What are the type of ceramic bearings?

The product names of ceramic bearings include zirconia ceramic bearings, silicon nitride ceramic bearings, silicon carbide ceramic bearings, etc. The main materials of these bearings are zirconia (ZrO2), silicon nitride (Si3N4), silicon carbide (SiC), etc., which have high hardness, high wear resistance, high temperature resistance, excellent mechanical properties and oxidation resistance.

Specifically, the classification of ceramic bearings by material includes:

Zirconia ceramic bearings:

Zirconia (ZrO2) ceramic materials are used for bearing rings and rolling elements, polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is usually used for retainers, and glass fiber reinforced nylon 66 (RPA66-25), special engineering plastics (PEEK, PI) or stainless steel (AISI SUS316) and brass (Cu) and other metal materials can also be selected.

Silicon nitride ceramic bearings: The bearing rings and rolling elements are made of silicon nitride (Si3N4), which has higher speed and load capacity than ZrO2 bearings, and can adapt to higher temperatures.

Silicon carbide ceramic bearings: Silicon carbide (SiC) materials are used for bearing rings and rolling elements, which have excellent characteristics such as high hardness, wear resistance, rigidity and low friction.

In addition, ceramic bearings are classified by structure including:

All-ceramic bearings: Rings and rolling elements are made of ceramic materials, and the retainer is available in a variety of options, such as polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), nylon 66, polyetherimide (PEEK), polyimide (PI), stainless steel or special aviation aluminum, etc.

Hybrid ceramic bearing: the ring is made of metal materials such as bearing steel or stainless steel, and the rolling element is a ceramic ball, which has excellent characteristics such as low density, high hardness, wear resistance, rigidity and low friction, and the service life is greatly extended.

Ceramic bearings are classified by application, including:

High-speed bearings: mainly used in high-speed, high-precision equipment, with low force elasticity, high pressure resistance, light weight, and a wide range of temperatures.

High-temperature bearing: used in high-temperature equipment, it can withstand high temperature of 1200°C and has good self-lubrication performance.

Corrosion-resistant bearings: used in working environments that need to cope with extremely harsh media such as strong acids and alkalis, organic mixtures or seawater.

Anti-magnetic bearing: non-magnetic, used in demagnetization equipment, precision instruments and other equipment, effectively avoiding arc breakdown parts.

Electrically insulated bearings: parts with high resistivity and effective arc breakdown, which are often used in power equipment.

Vacuum bearing: good self-lubrication performance, used in ultra-high vacuum environment.
