What is a water-lubricated bearing?

Water-lubricated bearings mean that the bearings are used directly in water and do not require any sealing devices. The bearings are lubricated by water and do not require oil or grease, eliminating the hazard of water contamination. The bearing is often used in running water, which can effectively control the temperature rise of the bearing, so as to have a long service life, safety and reliability. Water-lubricated bearings are based on materials with self-lubricating properties, combined with the lubricity of water under certain conditions, to be used in hydropower stations and other fields. Water does not have the same high viscosity and lubricity as the recognized lubricant oil. Water does have a limited viscosity and density and, as a result, provides a hydrodynamic membrane. The development of the best water-lubricated bearings will be based on the material and design, which should have good self-slip properties and excellent friction resistance.
